Accountant

Invercargill, New Zealand

Reference: 6903592

  • Permanent role with flexible hours. Choose anything from 20-40 hours per week with start and finish times that can work around you.
  • Newly created role offering variety, growth, and real business impact.
  • Join a supportive team where your ideas, initiative, and development are valued.

SouthRoads is a well respected Southland business that plays a critical role in building and maintaining infrastructure across the region. As the business continues to grow a new opportunity has been created for a commercially minded accounting professional to join the team.

This role offers far more than traditional accounting. You'll become deeply involved in the operational side of the business, working alongside contract managers, operational leaders, and the finance team to understand what drives performance, profitability, and success on the ground. You'll gain valuable insight into the aggregate side of the business and learn the operational aspects of the industry, so prior knowledge in this area is not expected.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Supporting aggregate costing, performance analysis, and stock movements
  • Delivering job and contract costing insights to support profitability
  • Partnering with operational managers to analyse costs and performance
  • Assisting with reporting, forecasting, process improvements, and financial planning

To be successful in this role you'll bring:

  • 3 - 5 years of previous accounting or finance experience, ideally within a commercial, contracting, construction, or similar environment
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working across financial systems
  • An interest in costing, business performance, and operational decision making
  • A proactive approach with the curiosity to investigate issues and identify solutions

Just as importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working collaboratively. The finance team is supportive, approachable, and down to earth. They work hard, enjoy what they do, and believe the best results come from sharing knowledge, asking questions, and helping each other succeed. Nobody is expected to know everything, and there is a genuine culture of learning and continuous improvement.

If you're looking for a role where you can broaden your commercial experience, work closely with the operational side of a growing business, and see the direct impact of your work on real projects, we'd love to hear from you.
