Network Inspector & Operation Support Manager

SouthRoads is a leading civil construction and maintenance contractor operating throughout the lower South Island. As part of the HWR Group, we deliver a wide range of infrastructure services including road maintenance, construction, surfacing, stabilisation, asset management and emergency response services.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Network Inspector to join our Clutha Maintenance team based in Balclutha.

This is a varied and hands-on role responsible for inspecting the road network, identifying maintenance requirements, managing Customer Service Requests (RFS) and managing work crews and sub-contractors as required. Working closely with Council representatives, you will play a key role in ensuring the network remains safe, compliant and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine inspections of the road network and identify pavement, shoulder and roadside defects.
  • Assess maintenance needs and recommend appropriate repair or treatment options.
  • Manage Customer Service Requests (RFS), including investigation, response, programming and close-out.
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of stabilisation and pavement resealing programmes.
  • Liaise with stabilisation and resealing crews and subcontractors to ensure work is delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, work histories and asset information within RAMM.
  • Assist with monthly programming and work prioritisation.
  • Liaise with Clutha District Council representatives regarding maintenance requirements and customer enquiries.
  • Monitor quality, health and safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Respond to network issues and emergency events when required.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in road maintenance, roading construction or network inspection.
  • Knowledge of pavement defects, edge breaks, stabilisation and resealing activities.
  • Experience identifying and prioritising maintenance requirements.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience working with RAMM or similar asset management systems.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements in the civil construction industry.
  • The ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
  • A current full Class 1 driver licence.
