The Role

Due to the business growth at SouthRoads, we are looking for a Contract Manager - Chip Sealing to play a key role in delivering chip sealing programmes throughout the Lower South Island.

This position has a strong emphasis on commercial oversight, contract coordination, treatment selection, and cost control. You will work closely with operational teams to ensure projects are administered efficiently, meet compliance requirements, and achieve strong financial outcomes.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing contract administration activities such as progress claims, variations, and payment processes
  • Tracking project budgets, forecasting costs, and monitoring financial performance
  • Completing chip seal treatment selection and design input
  • Ensuring project documentation, records, and tracking tools are accurate and kept up to date
  • Managing quality assurance records and supporting audit and compliance requirements
  • Providing contractual and commercial input into planning and programme development
  • Acting as a primary contact for clients on contractual, commercial, and administrative matters
  • Proactively identifying contractual risks and supporting issue and dispute resolution
  • Supporting a strong safety culture by ensuring contractual, quality, and compliance requirements align with health and safety expectations
  • Working alongside operational teams to ensure safety documentation, processes, and reporting are maintained and consistent
  • Improving consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across systems, processes, and reporting

About You

You'll be a practical, proactive professional who enjoys working closely with others and taking ownership of outcomes. You will bring:

  • Proven experience in contract administration or contract management within the chip sealing sector
  • A strong commitment to health and safety, with an understanding of how contract management, documentation, and commercial decisions support safe outcomes on site
  • Strong commercial judgement and experience managing costs and financial reporting
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage complex documentation
  • Confidence using contract management systems and reporting tools
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
