SouthRoads Ltd is a progressive civil construction and maintenance contractor with strong Southland and Otago roots. With one of the most modern and reliable construction fleets in New Zealand, we proudly support local communities and deliver high‑quality roading and civil works across the region.

As part of the transition to the new Southland Integrated Delivery Contract (IDC) - NZTA's operating model for maintaining and renewing the state highway network, we are expanding our team and looking for a dedicated Traffic Manager to join us.

About the Role

The IDC Traffic Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all traffic management activities delivered under the IDC. You will ensure network access, corridor coordination, and notifications are completed accurately and on time, while maintaining full compliance with traffic management and health and safety.

This role is critical to protecting road users, workers, and the public while enabling maintenance, renewals, and incident response activities to be delivered effectively across the Southland state highway network.

What You Will Do

  • Coordinate traffic management activities across planned works, reactive maintenance, and incident response.
  • Manage time and space bookings, early access requests, deployment notifications, and corridor access requirements.
  • Liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, utilities, councils, and NZTA to align traffic management planning and delivery.
  • Resolve clashes and optimise corridor activities to minimise disruption to road users.
  • Support operational teams by ensuring suitable traffic management requirements are in place.

  • Experience in traffic management coordination, roading, or civil maintenance environments.
  • Knowledge of TMP processes, corridor access, and network operations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across operational, planning, and field teams.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
